2010 Springport Schools Winterfest
(High School and District-wide Events)
SPARTANS ON ICE
Week of February 1-6, 2010
Dress-up Days (all week):
- Monday – Class Color Day (K/1st=red, 2nd=orange, 3rd=yellow, 4th=green, 5th=blue, 6th=purple, 7th=red, 8th=orange, 9th=yellow, 10th=green, 11th=blue, 12th=purple)
- Tuesday – Tacky Tuesday (mismatch, dress crazy)
- Wednesday – Favorite Team Day (wear a jersey or clothing of your favorite team)
- Thursday – Winter Day (wear your winter attire)
- Friday – Blue & White Day
Events:
- Snow Sculpture Contest (High School Only) (Wednesday) (100 points):
- Each class will have 3 members present each hour at their designated snow sculpture location on HS front lawn
- Pre-approval from teachers is needed
- Each student may work for 1 class period only, All snow sculptures will be completed between 7:55-2:35 on Wednesday, February 3rd
- All materials will be brought and planned ahead of time by that class, No ice can be brought in from other sites, Food coloring, utensils, and accessories to dress up your sculpture must be preapproved
- No class member may touch a sculpture of any other class
- Advisors will sign-up their sculptors and check on teacher pre-approval
- Snow Sculptures will be judged on overall creativity & aesthetics.
- Sparditarod (High School Only) (Thursday) (100 points):
- Spartan Sled Race – Each class will have 21 members on their team, One person will remain on the sled the entire time (class advisor), 5 people will pull the sled at a time (3 boys, 2 girls)
- There will be 3 exchange zones along the trail to exchange for 5 new runners (No Practice on the Course)
- Start order will be determined by number draw, Start will be staggered in 1 minute intervals
- The race will cover the 3rd grade 3K route, Team colors are highly encouraged, 10 Bonus Points for “lapping”
- The same style 2 runner sled will be used by all 4 teams, Each team must provide their own sled, Sleds must be preapproved prior to the race, Teams will be competing for the best time to complete the race
- Class Poster (K-12) (Monday - Thursday) (100 points):
- Each class makes a “paper roll width by 10 foot” poster of “Spartans on Ice” to hang in the HS gym
- HS - Posters can be worked on in Class Advisor rooms until 8:00 pm each night (judged Friday morning)
- Must incorporate basketball into the theme
Pep Assembly (Friday) (100 points):
- Planned by Student Council to include: (1) Class Tug-of-war (2) Staff vs. Students Game (3) Mr. & Mrs. Sparty Competition (tentative time from 1:45 pm – 2:45 pm)
- This event will include competitions for: 6-8 (Jr Mr/Ms Sparty), 9-12 (Mr/Ms Sparty).
- Each grade level is responsible for choosing or conducting their own tryouts to find 1 boy and one girl to represent that grade.
- The final competition will take place at the Winterfest pep assembly Friday, February 5th.
- The competition will consist of each boy and each girl completing the following activities at the pep assembly:
- (1) Jump (2) Tumble (3) Cheer
- The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges combined with crowd vote by applause.
- The winners will receive sashes to wear to the game that evening and will be recognized during Winterfest festivities at the varsity game that evening.
Basketball Game (Friday):
- Varsity and JV Boys Basketball Game February 5th against Quincy
- “White Out” – everyone wear a white Spartan shirt (Sold by the Junior Class)
- Half-time Events:
- Winterfest Results Announced & Representatives (King & Queen)
Snow Ball Dance (Saturday):

Semi-formal Saturday February 6th
- 8:00 – 11:30 pm (doors close at 9:00 pm), SHS Cafeteria, $4.00 / person, DJ - Mr. Vliek
