    • Fast web is a free on line scholarship search service available on the world wide web. After entering information about your background, educational goals and interests you will be given a list of organizations that offer scholarships for which you may be eligible. You can also sign up to have updated scholarships entered in your fast web mailbox.
  • www.collegeanswer.com
    • The college answer scholarship search is a data base of over 600,000 scholarship, grant, and other aid totaling over $1billion. As with fast web, completion of an online profile sets you up to receive emails on the program matches. College answer is a free service of salliemae an educational loan company.
  • Remember that bibliographies and search services provide only a preliminary match  you must complete any applications and other requirements and meet specific deadlines in order to be considered for most programs.

  • Don’t become the victim of a scholarship scam
  • Don’t use any scholarship search service that requires you to pay a processing fee or provide your credit card or bank account number. Beware of any scholarships which require an application fee legitimate scholarship sponsors do not require an application fee the important thing is that you spend the time not the money.

2009-2010 Scholarships:

Woman’s Club of Jackson-Student Loan Fund.  The Woman’s Club of Jackson Student Loan Fund was established in 1931 and is supported by the members of the club by donations, to help students of Jackson County achieve the goals of higher education.  The loan payments commence 90 days after graduation and the rate of 3% interest on the remaining balance each month.  Applications are in the counseling center or you can call 517-789-8857 for more information and ask for Barbara Renner

Optimist Club of Jackson –Gordon Will Opportunity Scholarship.  Deadline May 1, 2010.  This $2,000 award is to a boy and girl demonstrating a commitment to community service.  The application is available online at www.optimistclubofjackson.org

Deadline March 31, 2010
Kiwanis Club of Jackson Scholarship.  This scholarship is a one-time grant for a high school graduate who resides in Jackson County and whose goals are consistent with Kiwanis values of leadership and community service.  The value of this scholarship is $2,000.  Applications are available in the counseling center

Deadline February 6th 2010
American Federal Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline February 6th, 2010.  This scholarship is based on community involvement and an essay must be included.  You can pick up a scholarship application in the counseling center.

Michigan State Troopers Scholarship-Deadline April 1, 2010.  To be considered you must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher, have community service and demonstrate leadership ability.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

Deadline April 9, 2010
CP Federal Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline April 9, 2010.  Students that are currently members of CP Federal Credit Union are eligible to apply.  All applicants must have a GPA or 2.5 or higher.  The essay topic is “How would I teach financial education to my peers?” Applications are available in the counseling center.

Deadline May 28, 2010
Aeroquip Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline May 28, 2010.  They will award one $1,000 Scholarship to the student meeting the qualifications.  You must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be the primary member of the credit union, complete the application along with other requirements.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

The Michigan Retailers Association(MRA) scholarship competition.  To be eligible the student or parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA.  To find out if a particular business is a MRA member, you can call Laura Schilling at 1-800-366-3699.  You must request an application at the number above.

Deadline February 15, 2010 Jackson Chapter-MSPE
Michigan Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship.  Students who meet the requirements are judged on GPA(3.0), School and Community Involvement, honors and their essay.  Applications area available at www.michiganspe.org   also visit their site for more information.

Best Buy Scholarship.  This is for students 9-12 grade who have solid grades and involvement in their community.  Visit their website to apply on-line at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships

John George, Jr. Student Loan Fund.  Deadline June 1st.  This loan is for students that resides in Jackson County or attends school in Jackson County.  This loan from the fund at a 2% interest rate.  They will loan up to $5,000 per year.  Applications are available at www.johngeorge.org

Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Scholarship.  Deadline March 5, 2010.  Applications are available in the counseling center, through their website at www.emich.edu/alumni/awards/scholar.html  or contact EMU Office for Alumni Relation at 734-487-0250.  This is a $1,250 scholarship and is renewable for four consecutive years 

Deadline April
Sigmund Foundation Scholarship.  Deadline April 15, 2010.  This is for Jackson and Lenawee county graduation seniors enrolled in college or residents interested in furthering their education.  Eligibility is based on financial need, acceptance at an accredited college and a gpa of 2.5 or higher.  78 scholarships for awarded this past year so please apply.  Applications are available on line at www.sigmundfoundation.org or email requests to sigmundfoundation@sbcglobal.net.  The foundation office number is 517-784-5464 if you have any questions.

  • All candidates being considered for a scholarship will be invited for a personal interview with the Trustees the week of April 19, 2010.  After which, the final scholarship recipients will be named and notified through the mail
  • School counselors will receive certificates for presentation to recipients at their senior awards assembly.

  Deadline February 1, 2010.  Students interested in Teaching, Engineering, Research and Technology who are seeking degrees, training or certification in any of the area’s relevance to Earth Science fields, are invited to apply.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

The annual Michigan Society for Medical Research Essay contest invites high school students from Michigan to write an original essay about “Why Animals Are Used in Biomedical Research.” It is designed to promote awareness of the benefits and the process of biomedical research, and increase awareness and interest in science. The postmark deadline for the 2010 Essay Contest is Friday, December 18, 2009 with the required entry forms available on the website at: http://www.mismr.org/services/essay/2010EssayContestPacket.pdf

The first place winner receives $500 and is invited to the Michigan Society for Medical Research Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium May 12, 2010 .The teacher of the first-place winner is also invited to the Michigan Society for Medical Research Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium to receive a $100.

Winners will be notified by the beginning of April 2010. All participants receive a Certificate of Participation by end of May.The deadline for the 2010 Essay Contest is Friday, December 18, 2009. Adrian College Full-Tuition Scholarship.  For students currently ranked 1 or 2 in their senior class and complete admission process.  Apply on line at http://www.adrian.edu

Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Scholarship.  Deadline March 2009.  This $1,000 scholarship is renewable for four consecutive years for a maximum of $4,000.  The award is not based on financial need.  Scholarship information is available online at www.emich.edu/alumni/awards.scholar.html.

Lansing Community College-Award and Scholarship Programs.  Deadline February 2009.  Award booklet is available in the counseling center.  Also visit their website at www.lcc.edu.

Jackson Community College Scholarships.  Deadline March 2010.  Visit their website at www.jccmi.edu

John George, Jr. Student Loan.  Applications are available October 1st through June 1st and may be downloaded from their website at www.johngeorge.org or by visiting their office at 145 South Jackson Street, Jackson.  For more information, please call Karen Friend at 782-8126.  John George, the founder of the Jackson Citizen Patriot, originated a trust fund for loaning money to attend college.  This loan fund will loan qualified students up to $5,000 per year at 2% interest rate.  This is much lower than what you will find.  Eligibility to receive a loan is not determined by financial need but students must complete at least 12 hours per semester and maintain a 2.25 GPA.

McCurdy Memorial Scholarship Foundation and Emily Scofield Charitable Trust Scholarship.
  Deadline March 12, 2010.  To be eligible you must be graduating high school senior who reside in Calhoun County.  Selection will be based on initiative and effort demonstrated through leadership, citizenship, work ethic, community service, educational record as indicated by test data and grades received in high school.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

Kellogg Community College Foundation Scholarships.  There are several scholarships available based on high school GPA.  Applications are available in the counseling center or at their website at www.kellogg.edu/foundation

EECU-A Community Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline April 9, 2010.  Two $1,000 scholarships for excellence in both academics and community service will be awarded.  Applicants must be members of EECU to be eligible to receive a scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling office.

RARE Everyday Heroes Scholarship Competition
.  Deadline December 1, 2009.  Students must submit an original essay, one-page single spaced, about someone whom they consider to be an Everyday Hero because through their life’s work, they are making a difference for others.  These should be regular people.  For more details, please visit www.RAREfoundation.org

American Legion Auxiliary Department of Michigan Medical Career Scholarship.  Deadline March 15, 2010.  Candidates shall be daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sons, grandsons, great-grandsons or step of the discharged or deceased men or women veterans of WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Hostilities, Grenada and Lebanon Hostilities, Panama Hostilities or Persian Gulf.  Scholarships must be used in a school in Michigan and shall be used for training men and women for medical careers.  Please visit their website at www.michalaux.org

Health Service League of Albion Scholarship.  Deadline March 31, 2010.  This scholarship targets adults and HS seniors seeking education in a non-administrative role in the health-related field.  Recipients will be selected based on merit, need, grades, community involvement and commitment to a health-related field.  This is limited to Albion, Springport, Homer and Concord.  Applications are available at www.albionfoundation.org

NALS of Michigan Scholarship Award.  Deadline January 15, 2009.  This is available to those enrolled or planning to enroll in a school of advanced education in the legal field.  You must have a B average and show financial assistance.    Applications are available in the counseling center.

KFC Colonel’s Scholarship.  Applications available December 1, 2009 through February 10, 2010.  Applicants must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher, enroll in a public university or college, pursue a bachelor’s degree and be a US citizen or resident.  Applications are online at www.kfcscholars.org

Western Michigan University Medallion Scholarship Competition
is an on-campus event held January 23, 2010 for outstanding seniors.  You must be entering WMU for the first time, fall 2010 and have a GPA of 3.7 or higher at the end of your junior year and have an ACT score of 26 or higher.  Students who meet this criteria and ensure all documents for admission are received will be invited to compete for one of 15 scholarships valued at $40,000 over 4 year.  Please see Mrs. Hale if you qualify.

MAB Foundation High School Broadcast Application.  Deadline December 31, 2009.  You must a GPA of 3.0, MI resident, accepted in a 2 or 4 year Michigan college, plan to enroll full-time in a broadcast related field and exhibit professional promise within the broadcast industry.  Visit their website for more information and applications at www.michmab.com

Michigan Oil and Gas Producers Education Foundation.  Deadline April 1, 2010.  Qualified applicants must have been accepted for enrollment at a Michigan university or Community college, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.  You also must pursue a degree in a field of study which will allow them to obtain full time employment in the crude oil and natural gas industry.  The application can be obtained at www.mogpef.org

Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship Athletics Citizenship.  The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.  Any eligible student can register and begin the application process at www.wendysheisman.comDeadline October 1st, 2009

Central Michigan University -Centralis Scholarship Competition-October 17, 2009.  MI students with an overall GPA of 3.5 are encouraged to compete for the Centralis Scholarships.  Any student with a 3.5 GPA and a minimum 20 ACT is eligible to receive their Board of Trustees Honors Award.  They also offer Board of Trustees Elite Award for students with a 3.65 GPA and ACT of 25 or higher or 3.75 GPA and 20 or higher.  All students who plan to take the examination must register on line at www.cmich.edu/centralis  Deadline October 17th

Coca-Cola Scholarhsip.  If you are a truly motivated. Dedicated, involved high school senior the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is awarding $3 Million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving students.  Apply online at the deadline is October 31st at www.coca-colascholars.org

2010 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Scholarship Contest.  The JFK Library Foundation invites US high school students to write an original essay on the political courage of a US elected official.  For contest information, registration and to submit your essay online, visit the Profile in Courage Award Program at www.jfklibrary.org  Deadline January 9, 2010

Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go Scholarship.  They recognize a high school senior who understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a $5,000 scholarship.  Please apply at www.ohtheplaces.org  Deadline February 15, 2010. 

The National Co-Op Scholarship Program.  This is for students that plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of the following universities:  Drexel , Johnson and Wales, Kettering, Pace, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati and Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Visit   www.hsf.net     Deadline February 15, 2010.

National Association for Business Economics (NABE) Foundation College Scholarship Award: Americans for the Arts Recipient to encourage the integration of the arts into economic education.

Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to college level students or students entering college, who come from an economic disadvantaged household, have attended a public school, can demonstrate a long term participation in the study of, creation in and/or performance in one or more art forms, including dance, music, theatre, literary, visual/media arts), excelled academically, and have formally declared the intent to study and apply economics in their pursuit of higher education and professional career.

2008-2009 Scholarships:

Optimist Club of Jackson Gordon Will Opportunity Scholarship.  Deadline April 4th, 2009.  The Optimist Club is giving away $2,000 to one male and one female student.  Criteria are that students demonstrate a commitment to community service, an involvement in their school and a dedication to academies (must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.  The application is available in the counseling center. A completed packet must include : transcripts, copy of FAFSA SAR and 2 recommendations. 

Baker College Scholarships.  Deadline May 1st, 2009.  Career Scholarship (minimum GPA 2.5) and Board of Regents Scholarships (minimum GPA 3.0).  Applications are available in the counseling center. 

Whitney C Albertson Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Deadline April 30th, 2009.  This is open to all Jackson area female high school students who plan to attend college as a full-time student.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

Woman’s Club of Jackson Student Loan Fund.  Deadline  May 1st 2009.  The Woman’s Club of Jackson Student Loan Fund has established a loan that is offered to any qualifying high school student that has graduated from a Jackson County High School.  The interest is 3% on the remaining balance each month.  Applications are available in the counseling center. 

Money available for attending JCC!  Apply for scholarships now.
JCC offers hundreds of thousands of dollars to students each year in scholarships to help pay for the cost of attending JCC.  Now is the time to apply for scholarship monies.
JCC Presidential Scholarships are available to high school seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 who plan on attending JCC full-time in the Fall. Deadline for applications is March 4, 2009. This is a $1,500 scholarship divided equally between Fall and Winter semesters, and is renewable a second year provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and full-time status.

The JCC Foundation offers more than 60 private scholarships each year to a variety of students.  Some awards are based on academic performance, while others are granted upon financial need, program of study choice, and more. Each year, the Foundation awards approximately $200,000 in scholarship money. The Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2009-10 academic year and the deadline is March 12, 2009.

Reminder:  Jackson Legacy Applications due March 1st.
The Jackson Legacy Program provides up to $3000 in scholarships for qualifying Jackson County high school graduates who plan to attend Jackson County institutions of higher education.  Apply for the Jackson Legacy Program and be sure to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA by March 1, 2009.

Kiwanis Club of Jackson Scholarship.  Deadline March 31, 2009.  Visit their website at www.jacksonkiwanis.com for the application.  This scholarship is a one-time grant for a high-school graduate who resides in Jackson County and whose goals are consistent with Kiwanis values of leadership and community service.  The selected applicant will have demonstrated potential for successful post-secondary academic study as demonstrated by high-school ACT or SAT test scores, academic class standing, and recommendation letters.  He/she will also have a record of extra-curricular activities, volunteerism, work experience and academic achievement consistent with Kiwanis standards. 

The value of this scholarship is $2000.  This scholarship can be used at a college, university, community college, or other post-secondary school which is accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges or an equivalent regional accrediting body.  Application deadline is March 31, 2009.  Winners will be announced May 22, 2009.     Please provide all information in your own handwriting.

Michigan Retailers Association Scholarship.  Applications must be requested by March 14 and submitted by April 1st, 2009.  To be eligible, the student or his/her parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA.  To find out if a particular business is an MRA member, you should check with their employer or call MRA’s Laura Adkins at 1-800-366-3699.  For an application you may apply online at www.retailers.com  The access code is MIRA.  For more information, contact 1800-366-3699 and ask for Ms. Adkins

Aeroquip Credit Union.  Deadline May 29th, 2009.  Applicants must be graduating seniors, achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA, must be a primary member of Aeroquip Credit Union and in good standing, complete an application,  have a recommendation from one non-relative, send in official transcripts and write an essay on the importance of a good financial credit history.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund Scholarships.  Deadline April 1, 2009.  To be eligible a student must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher, have Service to their community and demonstrate leadership ability.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program.  Deadline March 15, 2009.  Visit www.kohlskids.com to nominate kids ages 6-18 whose time, efforts and ideas have made a positive impact on their communities. 

Health Service League of Albion Scholarship.  Deadline March 31, 2009.  This scholarship targets adults and high school seniors seeking education in a non-administrative role in health-related field.  Recipients will be selected based on merit, need, grades, community involvement and commitment to a health-related field.  Applications are available at the Albion Community Foundation or at www.albionfoundation.org

Eaton Scholarship.  Deadline May 1. 2009.  Applications available in the counseling center.  The criteria of minimum GPA 2.0, able to demonstrate a strong sense of community involvement, leadership and good moral character will receive a $500.00 scholarship.      

Hillsdale County Community Foundation Tim Lehman Memorial Scholarship.  Deadline March 1, 2009.  The purpose of this fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior who is the son or daughter of a city, county or state police officer of Jackson or Hillsdale County and is enrolled in a four year college or university criminal justice program.  For more information and an application, please contact the Foundation or visit their website at;  Hillsdale County Community Foundation, PO Box 276 Hillsdale, MI  or www.aboutccf.org

American Federal Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline February 27, 2009.  They are offering $1,000 scholarships to area high school students through its annual Community Involvement Award Scholarship Program.  Applications are available in the counseling center. 

Sigmund Foundation Scholarship.  Deadline April 15, 2009.  Must be a Jackson or Lenawee County Resident, acceptance at an accredited college or university, proof of financial need, GPA of 2.5 or higher and completion of FAFSA.  Applications are available on-line at www.sigmundfoundation.org

  • The Michigan Society of Professional Engineers-Deadline 2/9/09  Engineering Scholarships.  There are several engineering scholarships available to students pursuing an engineering degree in Michigan.  Visit their website at www.michiganspe.org
  • Michigan State University College of Education Alumni Association.  Deadline January 30th, 2009.  The scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is for a graduating senior who has been admitted to MSU and intends to pursue a career in K-12 education.  Go to www.educ.msu.edu and click on COEAA Freshman Scholarship Application link.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Deadline February 16, 2009.  The RMHC Scholarship Program is comprised of 4 individual scholarship programs.  Visit their website at www.rmhc.org  for more information.

  • Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Foundation Community Scholarship-Deadlines vary according to the scholarships. Applications are available online November 1, 2008 to January 31st, 2009. There are several scholarships on their website under the heading “education.”  Visit their website at www.walmartfoundation.org for more information and the applications

  • John George, Jr. Student Loan.  Applications are available October 1st through July 31 and may be downloaded from their website at www.johngeorge.org or by visiting their office at 145 South Jackson Street, Jackson.  For more information, please call Karen Friend at 782-8126.  John George, the founder of the Jackson Citizen Patriot, originated a trust fund for loaning money to attend college.  This loan fund will loan qualified students up to $5,000 per year at 2% interest rate.  This is much lower than what you will find.  Eligibility to receive a loan is not determined by financial need but students must complete at least 12 hours per semester and maintain a 2.25 GPA.
  • Michigan Gem and Mineral Society Scholarship.  Deadline February 1, 2009.  A criterion is based on a minimum of 2.8 GPA, Community Service, Financial Need and Letters of recommendation.  The scholarship contains a 250 word essay and must address your commitment to Earth Sciences, which may include Geology, Mineralogy or Lapidary Arts or Career and Educational Goals.  Applications are available in the counseling center. 
  • NALS of Jackson County Scholarship.  Deadline December 10, 2008.  Candidate must be a high school senior intent on enrolling in a school of advanced education in the legal field.  The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, future career goals and the ability to enroll in the fall term of 2009.  Applications are available in the counseling center. 
  • McCurdy Memorial Foundation and Emily Scofield Charitable Trust Scholarships.  Deadline March 13, 2009.  Eligible Applicants are seniors who reside in Calhoun County and will be attending college full time.  Selection criteria is the students show initiative and effort demonstrated through leadership, citizenship, work ethic, community service, educational record and financial need.  Applications are available in the counseling center.
  • Michigan Oil and Gas Producers Education Foundation Scholarship.  Deadline April 1, 2009.  Qualified applicants must have been accepted for enrollment at a Michigan University or Community College, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.  The applicant must also be pursuing a degree in an energy related field of study with the ambition of seeking to obtain full-time employment in the oil and gas industry, an energy related industry or an allied industry.  There will be a $500 scholarship awarded to the top five applicants.  The application is available at www.mogpef.org
  • 2009 American Legion Scholarships.  Deadlines vary per scholarship.  There are five Figure Scholarships open to Michigan H.S students.  Oratorical, Student Trooper Program, Brewer and Wilson Scholarship, American Legion Baseball Scholarship, Eagle Scout of the Year and Boys State Scholarship.  Visit their web site for applications at www.michiganlegion.org

  • AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol Scholarship Program.  Deadline April 17th, 2009.  Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to two graduating seniors attending high school that can show documented proof of AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol participation, good academic standing and a strong record of involvement in the community and extra curricular activities.  One application is accepted per school.  Applications are available in the counseling center.
  • State of Michigan-Children of Veterans Tuition Grant.  Applications are available at www.michigan.gov/osg.  Eligibility-Student must be a natural or adopted child of a MI veteran.  Must be older than 16 and less than age 26.  Veteran must have been KIA or died from another cause while serving in a war or war condition in which the U.S. was or participations or as a result of a service-connected illness or injury died or become totally and permanently disabled. 
  • The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.  For dates, sites and deadline information visit their website at www.legion.org.  You are eligible to participate in the American Legion Scholarship if you are a citizen or resident of the US; under the age of 20 years and must be enrolled in a high school or junior college.  1st place $18,000-2nd place $16,000 and 3rd place $14,000.

  • The Michigan Nursing Scholarship - The Michigan Nursing Scholarship is a non-need based award available to Michigan residents enrolled at least half time at an eligible institution in a program leading to a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN). American Federal Credit Union Scholarship.  Deadline February 29th, 2008.  $1,000 awarded through its annual Community Involvement Award Scholarship Program.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office.

The annual Michigan Society for Medical Research Essay contest invites middle and high school students from Michigan to write an original essay about “Why Animals Are Used in Biomedical Research.” It is designed to promote awareness of the benefits and the process of biomedical research, and increase awareness and interest in science. The deadline for the 2008 Essay Contest is Tuesday, December 18, 2007 with the required entry forms available on the website at: http://www.mismr.org/services/essay/essay_hs_08.html.
The first place winner receives $500 and is invited to the Michigan Society for
Medical Research Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium April 23, 2008. The teacher of the first-place winner is also invited to the Michigan Society for Medical Research Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium to receive a $100. Winners will be notified by March 31. All participants receive a Certificate of Participation by end of May. The deadline for the 2008 Essay Contest is Tuesday, December 18, 2007 The Michigan Society for Medical Research gratefully acknowledges Pfizer, Inc., Ann Arbor for their generous support of the Michigan Society for Medical Research Student Essay Contest.

Jackson County Farm Bureau Scholarship.  Deadline March 1, 2008.  The Jackson County Farm Bureau Scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding and deserving senior.  Scholarships are awarded based on GPA, Leadership, community activities and educational and career plans.  Please pick up an application in the counseling center.

Sigmund Foundation Scholarship.  Deadline April 15, 2008.  Must be a Jackson or Lenawee County resident, Acceptance to an accredited college, proof of financial need, GPA of 2.5 or higher, Completion of FAFSA.  The scholarship is up to $5,000 and can be renewed through the application process.  Funds can be used for tuition, books and related fees.  Priority will be given to students majoring in the medical and aviation fields but not limited to any field of study.  Applications available at www.sigmundfoundation.org

McCurdy Memorial Foundation and Emily Scofield Charitable Trust Scholarship Application.  Deadline March 25, 2008.  Eligible Applicants must be graduating high school seniors of a private and public schools who reside in Calhoun County.  Grant amount $1500 per year for McCurdy and $700 per year for Scofield.  Applications can be picked up in the counseling center.

Jackson County Legal Support Professionals.  Deadline December 12, 2007.  This scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant who has the intent on pursuing a career in the legal field, have a 3.0 GPA or higher and demonstrate financial need.  Applications are available in the counseling center 

Rare Foundation-Everyday Heroes Writing Scholarship-Deadline February 29th, 2008.  Submit an original, well-documented essay of at least 500 words on the theme, “My Everyday Hero-A True Difference Maker.”  Winners will be selected based on:  Strength of your idea, Organization of Essay, Specificity of examples supporting the theme, Depth of research, and Creativity of work.  Rules and entry forms are available at www.rarefoundation.org

The Michigan Gem and Mineral Society Scholarship Program.  Deadline postmarked by February 1, 2008.  The scholarship focuses on the following criteria:  Academic-minimum 2.8 GPA, Community Service, Financial Need and Letters of recommendation.  There is also a 250-word essay that must address the following:  Commitment to the Earth Science, which may include Geology, Mineralogy or Lapidary Arts and Career and Educational Goals.  Applications are available in the counseling center

Walmart/Sam’s Club Foundation Community Scholarship-Deadline January 12, 2008.  Available online November 1, 2007 to January 12, 2008.  Applicants may not be employees or any family members.  Go to www.walmartfoundation.org

ITT Technical Institute Fort Wayne Campus is hosting Scholarship Saturday 2007 on November 10 at 10:30am.  It will feature their scholarship competition in which six merit scholarships will be awarded.  Visit their website for more information.

EECU-A community credit union has its annual scholarship competition for high school seniors.  Deadline is April 11, 2008.  EECU will award 2-$1,000 scholarships for excellence in academics and community service.  Applicants must be members of EECU and plan on attending a college or university in Jackson, Hillsdale or Lenawee County.  Copies are available in the counseling center or Mrs. Merrrill’s room.

The National Co-Op Scholarship-Deadline February 15, 2008-Early submission is strongely encouraged.  To be eligible for a merit co-op scholarship a student must apply and be accepted at one of the 10 NCCE Partner Colleges, CW Post, Drexel University, Johnson & Whales, Kettering, Northeastern, Pace, Rochester Institute, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo or Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Visit their website at www.co-op.edu

John George Jr. Student Loan Fund.  Applications are available October 1st through April 30, 2008.  This loan is up to $5,000 per year to students enrolled in a university, college or community college supported by the State of Michigan.  Eligibility is not determined by financial need and the requirements for receiving a loan include that the student reside in Jackson County, be a graduate of one of its high schools and complete at least 12 hours each semester and maintain a 2.25 GPA in college.  Visit their website to download an application at www.johngeorge.org

Olivet College High School Guidance Counselor Scholarship Program.  Scholarship is worth $2,000 per year for 4 years.  To qualify you must have at least a 3.0 GPA and 19 or higher on the ACT.  An application must be filled out for admission online at www.olivetcollege.edu/.  Please see Mrs. Hale if you meet these requirements and plan on attending Olivet College.

Olivet College Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship Program.  Scholarship is worth $2,000 per year for 4 years.  To qualify the student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and 19 or higher on the ACT.  An application must be filled out for admission online at www.olivetcollege.edu/.  The student must also declare and maintain a major within the department of Performing Arts.  Please see Mrs. Hale

Burger King Scholars Program.  Applications are available online Oct. 15 to Feb. 15, 2008.  The deadline is February 15th, 2008.  The scholarship award is $1,000 and can be used for educational expenses.  To find out the criteria and to obtain an application visit their website at www.bk.com/scholars.

Baker College Career Scholarships.  Deadline is May 1st, 2008.  The $4,800 scholarships are applied toward each winner’s tuition per term up to $4,800.  All interested students that plan on attending Baker College should visit their website and fill out an application for admission at www.baker.edu.

CP Federal Credit Union Partnership in Education Scholarship.  Deadline is 3/7/2008.  To apply complete the application available in the counseling center or in Senior Transitions and return it along with your essay.  You must be a good standing member to apply.  So, open an account ASAP.

Western Michigan University Medallion Scholarship Competition.  The deadline to apply for this Scholarship is December 7, 2007.  If you are planning on attending WMU, see Mrs. Hale for more information.

Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship Competition.  The deadline for this application is November 21, 2007.  Please see Mrs. Hale for more information if you plan on attending Eastern Michigan University. 

Jackson County Community Foundation Scholarship is available at http://www.jacksoncf.org/index.html on November 19, 2007. Several scholarships are available for students planning on attending a college in Jackson County, Baker College, Spring Arbor, and JCC.

Variable-The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will award 250 scholarships totaling $3,000,000 to motivated, dedicated, involved high school seniors who are college-bound.  Students must apply on-line.  The scholarships can be used for any line of study at any accredited U.S. College or university.  Apply on-line by Oct. 31st at www.coca-colascholars.org 

Deadline 10/30/07-The Horatio Alger Association Scholarships-These scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $2,500-$20,000.  Students must show financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  To apply you must submit an online application at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships

Deadline 12/1/07- The Society of Automotive Engineers Engineering Scholarship Program offers a number of scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and the related sciences.  All applicants must be a high school senior, intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science, be a citizen of the United States, and meet minimum requirements (GPA and ACT/SAT scores).  Students are encouraged to retrieve the application and information on-line at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm

Deadline 1/15/2008-NALS of Michigan Scholarship.  NALS of Michigan is offering two annual scholarships to those enrolled, or planning to enroll in a school or advanced education pursuing a degree in the legal field.  Scholarships are in the amount of $1,000.  Call 517-787-5233 or visit www.nalsofmichigan.org

Undesignated Scholarships-These corporate-sponsored scholarships range in value from $1,000 to $10,000.  The applicant must enroll in an engineering program accredited by the ABET at the university of the applicants choice.  Judging will be based on the criteria established by the sponsor and as outlined in the individual scholarship descriptions.  Information on ABET is available at http://www.labet.org

University Sponsored Scholarships range from $400 to full tuition.  To qualify the applicant must attend the named university and enroll in a specific program of engineering, if required.  These scholarships are not transferable to another university.  Judging will be conducted by the specific university, and will be based on the criteria established by the university and as outlined in the individual scholarship descriptions.  All scholarships are contingent upon the applicant’s enrollment in an accredited curriculum.  The applicant is responsible for making application for admission to the institution prior to January 15, 2008.

 Deadline 12/15/2007-The AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with the U.S. News and World Report.  Awards include one $10,000 scholarship per state.  To qualify, students should be well rounded, determined to succeed and have demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extracurricular activity.  These students, known as AXA Achievers are people who will succeed in life because they possess an extra element of grit and determination.  To learn more about AXA Achievement visit www.axa-achievement.com

Deadline 1/2/2008-Michigan State University Alumni Association Scholarship.  This $1,000 scholarship is for incoming MSU freshman who are planning to pursue a career in K-12 education.  You must have a GPA of 3.5 or above.  Download criteria and the application at www.educ.msu.edu/students/undergraduate/scholarships/freshman.htm.

Deadline 1/4/2008-The American Legion $500 Brewer Scholarship is offered to residents of Michigan who are a son or daughter of a veteran.  Selection is based on the student academic standing (2.5 min. Deadline 1/2008-Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship.  The Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship is available to high school Juniors with at least a 2.75 GPA for 9th and 10th grades, who are multi-talented, take the lead, may have overcome obstacles and who are giving back to their communities.  Discover Card provides nine $2,500 scholarships in each state and nine $25,000 national scholarships each year.  These scholarships are not based on test scores or financial need.  They honor the all-around accomplishments of high school juniors beyond academics.  Winners are allowed to use their scholarship for any type of post-secondary education or training in any certified training program, trade and technical school, community college or college or university.  If you have questions, contact them at tributeaward@aasa.org or download an application at www.discover-card.com/tribute.htm
